Q: Who/What has been your best teacher in business?
A: Life!! Trial and error.
Q: What is the last song you listened to?
A: Icehouse, "Great Southern Land"
Q: What is the one photograph you've taken that you want to be remembered by?
A: This is a hard question to answer because like most photographers, I’ve grown and changed so much over my career so there are different images that I would want to be remembered by for different reasons. I’m leaning towards one of the first shots I did at the very beginning of my career thirteen years ago. It was not for a campaign, or even for a client - just a collaboration between a young fellow photographer and myself. She had pixie short hair and brought out her big blue tulle stuffed prom dress - but despite the beautiful color I chose to convert it to B&W. It was shot against a building constructed in the early 1900s and though captured in Fort Worth, Texas - it felt very European and timeless. It is hard to know when or where the photo was taken without context. I think because I captured this image in my formative years as an artist, that it speaks very truthfully to who I am as a photographer at my core before my aesthetic became more informed by technicalities and exposure to other photographers, especially as the industry exploded and became increasingly saturated on the web and social media.
Q: What's the first thing you notice about people?
A: Personal Style.
Q: Who's the last person you talked to on the phone?
A: A woman at a sushi restaurant where I placed an order for dinner.
Q: What are words you live by?
A: “Why?” I am as curious as a 4 year old and want to know how everything in the universe works and why it works that way. The what-ifs and obsessive curiosities in my brain are infinite and though at times are often to my detriment are also the key to my creativity.
Q: What's your super secret power?
A: I am such a sponge-y empath that I’ve quite literally had to learn how to shield myself because I absorb energy like crazy and often have a hard time differentiating between my own personal emotion and that of those around me. It’s a work in progress to learn how to harness this “power” for good and to not be overwhelmed by it, but it definitely allows me to be more selfless at important moments, help guide others or offer advice through difficult times, and definitely aides in capturing someone’s true essence during a shoot.
Q: One thing you can't show up to a shoot without, besides a camera :)
A: A smile / good energy! Cliche but true and really sets the stage for a successful day!
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
A: Cuddling with my 4 cats (and husband) :)
Q: What inspires you?
A: My peers and fellow creatives keep me on my toes and constantly inspired! My eyes have an insatiable appetite, so I’m always consuming art in various forms be it through music, film, culinary arts, or visiting museums and galleries. I love just watching the world around me and find quite a bit of beauty and inspiration in the unexpected and banal.
Q: Describe the color yellow to somebody who is blind.
A: Yellow is slippery warmth.
